How to make impact analysis in EA?
« on: September 19, 2006, 06:35:45 am »
I have several projects in oracle repository (project=schema). I have several packages what are shared between projects (using CVS).

In order to make quick impact analysis, is it possible to have links between different projects in oracle repository?
Or, is there possibility to see element links (dependencies) without having connected elements in same project file?

It is not acceptable also to import from CVS all packages into one project file, because not all elements are cvs controlled.

Any suggestions/ideas?

At a database level - you might be able to cross join in Oracle using "ea_guid" on tables for objects, connectors etc... (assuming you haven't "stripped guids" when importing the same XMI into the different databases)

It depends on what sort of impact analysis you want to conduct and how often....

It might be quite useful to setup an "impact analysis" database that you can import into.   That way you can put an element on a diagram and do "add -> insert related elements" - or achieve the same in SQL for a more of a report format.

Cheers,
David.
