Resizing Elements
« on: December 29, 2006, 03:45:35 pm »
I notice that elements increase in size when check boxes such as Notes are checked on in a diagram's options, but that they don't descrease in size when a the notes (and other options) are unchecked.

Please make this consistent. Either do not increase the box sizes at all, or if the boxes are increased in size when an option is selected. have them decrease in size when the option is deselected.

samsen,

The resizing functionality is new with EA (6.5/801) - so it hasn't bedded down yet.  I just tested the resizing with an Activity with Notes but no Features.  When you remove the Notes, the Activity doesn't resize - even though the default (*) Resize to longest Feature is true.  Since there is NO feature, the longest feature size is 0 and the activity should revert to the default size (which it wasn't when the notes were visible - it had expanded as required).

This is a defect and you should report it to Sparx using the Support link (at the top of the page).  Reference this forum topic in your bug report and then Sparx can view any further discussion or input on the matter.

HTH,
Paolo

Just a clarification, the resize to longest feature option is intended to replicate the previous behaviour of EA and is not intended to shrink the width of the class at all.  The behaviour would be more accurately be described as setting the class width to the maximum of the existing width and the width of any features displayed.

Then it should be named
(*) Expand to longest Feature.   ;)

Yes, I agree.  I just couldn't think of a succinct way of phrasing it.

No problem,   :D

BUT...  As samsen and I are pointing out, we users also NEED a contraction process...

[Alt-Z] has problems as it is... Which I'll document separately...

Actually, what would be valuable (from my perspective) is that when features (i.e. notes) are set to display, that the width of the element remain the same, and only the length (# of rows) increase to accomodate the display of the text. And when the display of the feature is unchecked, that only the height of the box descrease.

A contraction process, (for height and width) would be a separate feature request from the feature recently added.  Feel free to send that in using the feature request form if you haven't already.
