Search in Linked Documents
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:09:36 am »
hi all, does EA provide the opportunity to search (see: model search (ctrl-F)) for keywords in linked documents? I as an analyst document changes to the elements there and the programmers should be able to find the affected elements in an easy way.
thx Stefan

This feature has not been added in 7.0.  I'm still very interested in seeing some functionality that would allow filtering for searching and reporting based on whether an element has a linked document or not.  We need to be able to easily find those elements with and without linked documents.  Also, it would be nice for this to be visually indicated in the project browser and other areas for quick assessment.

It seems that a few other people are also interested in such features:

Another thread where similar or related functionality is discussed:

Thanks for listening! :D

Definitely worth having.

Of course, this could involve creating a general purpose search engine, which is not quite in the 'band' of features a UML product normally supports.

I don't mean to say it cannot be done, just that it will require some thinking out of the box.

Just my 0.02 CAD worth.

Ooops.  I meant to reply to a different thread but maybe I was imagining it since I can't find it now.

I'm really interested in being able to filter searches and reports on elements (eg. use cases) by the existence of a linked document.

David, do you know how to create a new thread from my post?

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

Just go to the forum section you want. By that I mean the place you'll get to if you click Home (near the top of the forum page) and then click the forum section name on the left. At that point you should be looking at the list of threads. Above the list at the very right you should see Start new topic. Click that link and follow the directions.
