Some Requests
« on: December 11, 2008, 08:03:58 pm »
Hi!

The Enterprise Architect is a very good product and in our company we use several tens licences. For further increase its usefulness for us, we would like to see some more feature, trying to concentrate on these which can be considered rather simple:

RTF documentation:
-      The possibility to enter some metadata to header/footer. Like the package name or something from tags.
-      An auto-resize for images in attached documents or at least the proportional resizing.

Testing:
-      Default sorting of the tests by name.
-      Possibility to permanently change the order of test types (e.g. so that the Acceptance is always the first).
-      More statuses for tests, maybe a possibility to define custom.
-      Possibility to copy the list of tests to the clipboard/export it to txt/csv/rtf/whatever.

Searching:
-      Make the searches shared for all users which use the project file. Like with all other data (custom views...)

Misc:
-      Toolbar buttons for fast check out/check in of a version controlled package.

More complex requests:
-      It would be really, really good, if the status of an element/package could be set by the statuses of all its tests. I.e. if at least one test is [ch8220]failed[ch8221], the status of the parent would be the same. And so on.
-      Generally more options for customizing the testing. I[ch8217]m sure there are already requests like this one.
-      Continuous spellchecking.

Otherwise thanks for the good work!

As for the other readers, please feel free to add your requests :)

Well done Biges,

You have done a great job of identifying and isolating several different ideas, and laid them out clearly. They make sense this way, at least to me, and it is very easy to see how they would add value.

The next step is to submit feature requests to Sparx. I suggest you do so, since you have already taken the time to lay them out so well. Making the request directly will ensure that an idea is actually reviewed by Sparx, while (only) posting to the forum is a bit hit and miss. That's not to say you should not post the ideas here; it is generally worth setting out ideas for discussion, and the Sparxians are active forum members too.

Use the Feature Request form; you can reach it by clicking the Feature Request link under the Support link near the bottom of any forum page.

Here's the (slightly) hard part. I think you'd be best to send a separate request for each line item, or at least one request for each group you've set out, depending on how much time you can afford. It would be helpful if you paste in the URL of this forum thread, so the Sparxians who review the requests can participate in any discussion here.

No, you can't have it!

You can export a search, add it to a MDG technology file and put this on a network share. EA can be configured to read that technology from that location so all users will get the latest version.
Not that bad as a workaround if you deploy a MDG technology anyway.
