Separate forum for MDG TOGAF Add-in
« on: October 21, 2009, 03:14:52 pm »
Hi Sparxians

I'm going to suggest that we create a new, separate discussion thread for users of the MDG Add-ins. I'm thinking specifically of the TOGAF and Zachman add-ins.

Currently, any discussion relating to how to use the TOGAF MDG Add-ins would fall in amongst fairly technical discussions in the "Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools" forum.

What I would be interested in is encouraging people who are using the TOGAF MDG add-in for business purposes (not developer technical folk) to be able to share knowledge.

I'm thinking the Zachman MDG Add-In would warrant a separate forum thread on it's own. Most questions I can think of for Zachman would be fairly orthogonal to questions relating to the TOGAF add-in.

What say you?

 :)

Gets my vote...

I'm not sure if this YaBB supports subcategories - It must do in some form since there's at least two super categories - Sparx Announcements and Discussion.

Perhaps (shock horror) - since this is supposed to be a user forum - we might decide how we'd like this run?

If so, we should decide not to run it using YaBB of course  ;D

But wait, it had wings, a snout, and was pink - I'd upload a picture if I was allowed to

PS: Vote

Changing the forum to another base than YaBB, or to have a separate section for MDG?
Im voting for both so!  ;)

While I've seen better BB software,
I think part of the problem is the way this BB is set up and configured. I'd be happier to see some work on improving some of the defaults and configuration.

I'm curious to know which version of yaBB is being used.

Actually, one thing I think would be very useful is to provide an EA wiki.

There is heaps of useful information in the forum here, but it all quickly gets lost in the mists of time (note that the search defaults to posts made in the last week).

As I read the slightly inaccessible pdf document on the RTF generator I think if it was more searchable, and could be supplemented with user's hard won knowledge how much better it could be.

I absolutely agree with this proposal. This would help a lot to build up a better interlinked documentation, and would allow the users to contribute in it.
There's a lot of information hidden in the user forum and the search capabilities are pretty bad (that's one reason why I would prefer anything else than YaBB, i think it's one of the intrinsic things).
Also upload of pictures, pdfs and other documentation material would be much easier using a wiki, usually that's what a wiki is purposed for in contrast to a forum.
