give error messages a meaning
« on: December 28, 2009, 09:15:56 pm »
I've got this error:
Error(s) have been detected dureing generation of the RTF document. Please see output window for details.

This really has no value, since I don't know what output window.
(Isn't every window showing me some kind of output?)

Ok let.s see in the EA User guide on "output window".
Yes, it is mentioned at the first hit. But... wait... how to get there, is not mentioned. Again, not so very usefull. Writing usable manuals is also an art  :P
Let's see "View". Yes. There is an output.

Okay, yes, I see what did go wrong.
EA couldn't find the package "My Package".
That is so wierd, because I can see it. I'm looking at it.
EA can find it's properties by me clicking on it.
So what's this for an errormessage. Totally unhelpfull.
It could have shown the errormessage in Latin, or japanese and it was still the same unhelpfull message. What can I do to fix it? What could this errormessage tell me, so I can do stuff without going to the forum, going through the User Guide. I want meaningfull info when it comes to errors. :-/

And I also found out how to generate this error.
Make a model document,
add a package to it.
Delete the original package,
import package from XMI file.
and yes... you can look at a package with the same name,
so #$%#%$-misleading.....

WTF is my prozac  :P
