Product Line Development
« on: February 12, 2010, 10:59:18 pm »
A search for "Product Line" does not lead to any result. In my organization there is a need for management of product line development.

Adding another tool to our tool set appears not to be an option, since we already have a modelling tool, an ide, a bug tracker, a version conrtrol system... Furthermore we need test management, requirements management and management of capability characteristics. In any of these applications, we maintain the same information on a different level of abstraction.

Since EA already provides features for requirements management, modeling  and test management, I assume it would be beneficial to eable the user to create a feature matrix, which could be based on features assigned to components in a component or deployment model.

Any thoughts about this?

If you relate the Features to the Component with an appropriate relationship (Realization?) then you can use the View|Relationship Matrix to visualize the relationships in a matrix.

Does that do what you want?

This could be a starting point but appears not to be sufficient. What we would like to do is to assign a feature to an iteration/version of our components.

At the end, I would like to query a repository for a feature and getting a result of required components similar to the feature/component matrix, as mentioned by Paolo, but including the version information for the required components...
