Is EA Forum Search broken ?
« on: May 02, 2007, 12:48:42 am »
There have been comments in threads about forum Search not finding postings that are known to be in there, unless very specific terms are used.

Is there any forum admin activity that needs to be performed here - perhaps reindexing the forum (if that's applicable) and maybe reviewing the search system's list of ignored 'common words' which might be excluding too many.

This is possibly quite apart from YaBB itself having any problems, which would be addressed by installing a newer YaBB - without losing the forum database !!

Any 'test case' examples of blatantly incorrect behaviour ?

Mike, I guess these would have to go to YABB. They'd claim: upgrade to the latest version (I guess). Although I'm pretty sure there are posts I was not able to find again, I can't prove that. Maybe one of the Sparx admins could at least state that something might be wrong and someone takes care.

What I noticed is: if I do *any* search, then press back on my browser (Firefox under Win7) and try another search, nothing happens. I can press the search button as much as I like, but the 'button press event' seems to be ignored entirely.

Another thing: it's great that we are able to limit the range in time in which we want to search, but IMNSHO the default of 1 week is just silly. Please make "(all posts)" default.

I haven't noticed any problems with the search (as long as you use the top left button, and not the top right box)
Its clumsy and slow, but it always gets me the expected results.

I'd like to see the default period set to 1 year (all is too long and too slow).
What I need however, is for the maximum of 100 to be substantially increased
