Multi project Repository
« on: March 16, 2011, 07:05:43 pm »
In a Deployment guide was mentioned a variant of:

One repository - Multiple projects

there was a picture showing a Multiproject Root Nodes.
There is no explanation how to set-up that ???
Another way: How to OPEN multiple Projects in EA ?
Anyone can help???

Thanks

There's a button on the browser window to and project root nodes.

What do you mean by open multiple projects?  Each EA instance can look at one repository instance at a time.  However, (apart from any security issues) all nodes in the repository are available to the viewer.  Thus if you have multiple projects as root nodes (BTW that's NOT the approach we have taken) then you just open up each node as required.

In our corporate repository we have over 60 databases (as separate packages) in our implementation level.

Does that help?

Hello,
I have the same problem. We bougth a Corporate edition. We have more big different projects and I can't find the way, how can I store them into one Oracle repository. Maybe I don't understand the principles, but it seems I can store _ONLY_ONE_ project into Oracle repository?!

Is there any workaround how to store more different projects into repository? I don't want to create always a new schema at Oracle server to store a new project. Please help.

Hi Pavel,

You have to be careful because EA (through EAUI) use the word "Project" inconsistently.  I avoid the word as much as I can.

Each EA repository (.EAP file or Server based instance) stores one set of "things"

EA calls the topmost nodes in the repository "Project Nodes" - but they are just Node (although special ones).

You decide what the nodes mean.  Sparx provides a number of sample configurations to get you started.  However, it sounds like you might be operating at a more "aggregate" or Enterprise level.

Over the years, we have developed specialised configurations to handle multiple "projects" operating at multiple levels of conceptualisation across an entire enterprise.  However, it's not to be attempted before one has a (somewhat better than) basic knowledge of how EA looks at the world from an metadata integration perspective.

We (now) call our configurations IMRs (Integrated Metadata Repository) which interacts with coordinated and integrated Subset Metadata Repositories (SMRs).

Start by creating multiple Project Root nodes (in EA Terms) and see where you go.  If you have a need for Enterprise Level Metadata Management, contact me off-line.

HTH,
Paolo
