Lazy Loading for Very Large diagrams?
« on: April 20, 2011, 02:32:18 pm »
I have an automatically generated diagram that consists of ~1200 vertices with a total of ~4000 arc (about ~1300 of which are visible).

It takes about 5 mins to load the diagram on a 3GHz machine!

I think it would be a good idea for EA to "Lazy Load" large diagrams in a separate thread and notify the user when it's finally available.  This would free up the UI for useful work in the mean time.

Thoughts?
Paolo

PS: I don't really want to enter into discussions about the unusability of such a diagram.  It is automatically generated and the metadata for the model is harvested from third party software.

The issue is that as diagrams grow larger, there is a point at which it makes sense to load the diagram in a separate thread.
