Inventory of Functions
« on: August 27, 2013, 06:38:05 am »
Hi there, I'm learning how to use Sparx and I want to simply create a list of business functions that deliver various capabilities that align with our company's strategy.

How do I create the inventory of functions (about 130 of them) quickly, associate the functions with a smaller list of business capabilities, and then  create services made up of various functions?

Thanks much!
Brandon Wilson.

Creating a list of functions is possible via a simple SQL. Associating them with something else is however more difficult. EA would force you to create class diagrams with the source class of the function and associate it with a target class (business capabilities). Traceability in that case is only visible in diagrams. There's an article published by Phil (IIRC) on the community site.

[edit] If a "function" is a class, use the method described in the following post.

Look for the Relationship Matrix. Show business functions down the side, business capabilities along the top, set the connector to Association, right click a cell and create a new connector.
