Links to EA website
« on: August 18, 2014, 08:35:48 am »
I have some links to the Sparx website, viz
http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.0/projects_and_teams/auditing.html

Is there any way to have a link that is not version specific, but simply points to the information for the most current release?

e.g. http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/projects_and_teams/auditing.html

The reason that version numbers are included is because sometimes pages are removed between versions and a single source will eventually result in a lot of dead links.

ah, thanks for the quick reponse.

I was thinking of a redirect, e.g.
a link such as http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/getting_started/security_submenu.html
could redirect to the current release, or last version if a deprecated page, of the topic.

It isn't just deleted pages per release (of which we have relatively few).

As we add new features, and the Help and other information is updated, the users need to be linked to the information relevant to their release. If they are working in release 9.x, they don't want to see instructions on using release 10 or 11 features that they can't access. Conversely, users on later releases also need to have access to information on the features of those releases and not be looking at 'old' information. The version numbering should be an indicator of how relevant the information is to them.
Best Regards, Roy

I don't know how hard it would be to set up such a redirect or what the performance impact on our server would be.

Well, for performance it would be near to nil. Except someone tries a DOS.
