Adding Tabular column in Notes
« on: January 20, 2015, 11:15:06 pm »
I have lots of information in tabular form for the activity in Notes section. However when I add the tabular info in the notes for an activity and then export the package in word, the tabular column information goes awkward in the output.
Similarly when I change the information in word and copy it in EA notes section, again the tabular column information is dis-oriented.
Can anyone please suggest a way to overcome this?

Could you use a Linked Document, linked to the activity ?

Hi Graham
Thanks for your response
Unfortunately I cannot link any document to the Notes section due to various constraints such as multiple documents, huge document size, irrelevant details for the current process, etc.
Is there any other way to resolve this tabular column issue in Notes?

I'm not sure we understand each other. Whatever information you want to put in the Notes field, simply put it in a Linked Document (linked to the element) instead. You create the Linked Document yourself, it isn't an external document that you link to from the Notes (although you could do that too if you wanted to collect your information into an external file).

Look up Linked Documents in the Help.

Thanks Roy
I tried to link a RTF document which contained tables. The table structure is not reflecting exactly in the same way as it is in the RTF document.

I just created an RTF document with a table and opened it in four different applications: MS Word, Libre Office, Wordpad and EA. Four entirely different ideas of how to display the table. Things that make you go hmmm.

Just a thought: it's not beautiful but HTML has some common sense about tables and it's some sort of standard unlike all the other candidates.

I don't find the HTML in the language options?
Can you please explain how one should change the option to HTML to get the tables right?

This was meant towards EA development to offer that.

... because the note control's storage format is HTML,
in fact you can paste tables into it and they look sort of OK until you close and open the control.
