Support for ArchiMate Model Exchange File Format
« on: June 19, 2015, 06:17:26 pm »
The Open Group is working on an XMI specification for the exchange of models between tools. The review can be found here:
https://collaboration.opengroup.org/projects/archimate/documents.php?action=list&dcat=69

Currently we have a lot of models in the free Archi tool but have reached its limitations.

We have purchased several floating EA licenses but are unable to successfully import the Archi models as EA does not currently support the Open Group ArchiMate Model Exchange File Format (csv import has been equally unsuccessful). Are there plans to support the Open Group XMI format in the future?

We do have plans to support the ArchiMate exchange format. Unfortunately, although I can see there is certainly demand for it, I can't say when that's likely to happen.

PS. The Open Group explicitly decided not to use XMI as their exchange method.

PPS. I wouldn't expect your diagrams to come across between tools cleanly, even when it is available. The OMG has invested considerable effort in trying to make that happen, and it can still be problematic. In contrast, this is the first attempt that I know of for the open group to define an exchange format, and they have disregarded what the omg has learned about it over the years.

Happened to notice this post. As a matter of fact it is now possible to import files from for example Archi using the Sparx plugin Biner EASI (http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/3rdparty.html#BinerEASI). This plugin does in addition to extending the support for ArchiMate and TOGAF also support import and export of models in accordance with the OpenGroup ArchiMate Exchange Format.

Interesting. I didn't realise that there was a third party add-in that supported ArchiMate exchange. If I had known, I would have offered that as a possible solution for users requesting it.

Looks like you beat us to supporting it by 3 months.
