Our organisation has done a lot of work in Visio. Good artefacts that we want to maintain.
Thankfully, they were receptive to using EA when I joined

, and pleased to hear it had a Visio importer $:-\$ .

The Visio Importer works well, but has a fairly simplistic interface and therefore is simple and immediate.
It not only creates the model elements but also lays out the diagram as it was in Visio (where's the thumbs up icon?).

The keys limitation are that:

for Visio elements which are not in the Visio Importer's existing mappings, you have to select a single default model element type to create in EA. That's the same destination type whether or not the original diagram author had intended them to be or not.
you may not want to use the pre-existing Visio Importer mappings

So the results you get depend on the source diagram and the pre-existing mappings, and are not always what you want.
We're having to hand-(re)draw may diagrams. Am I missing something?

The suggestion:
Have an advanced version that presents a tabular UI control where you can select the types to use for each model element. Not a massive job to do, wouldn't be hard to use, but would save much time.

I've had similar experiences with one client. In the end we gave up and just redrew everything manually, but then they hadn't been using Visio's UML stencil and hadn't been very strict about notation either.

Oh, and just to clarify in case you haven't done this before: this forum is only used to discuss proposed features, it's not a line into Sparx HQ. They do read this stuff, but in order to actually submit your proposal you should fill out a feature request and include a reference to this thread. That's the proper channel.

You can use the link bottom right of this page (Support/Feat. Req.). But don't hold your breath.
