Archimate MDG 2.0 to 3.0 Conversion
« on: August 05, 2016, 05:36:05 am »
Many of my customers who use Archimate 2.0 will be moving to Archimate 3.0 as EA 13 is formally released.

Is anyone aware of a way (script or other utility) to move existing model assets from one version of an MDG to another?  I can readily prepare a script to perform the conversion but thought I would check with the community first.

Paolo just mentioned that the latest V13 beta comes with a conversion tool. (There is a recent threat; look for Archimate and eventually Paolo as poster)

Oh, I think Paolo is a little more sociable than that. If you search for Archimate and Paolo as poster, you will find the recent thread.

Yes he is.  And as an example, make sure you search for "Paolo F Cantoni" (my name) not PaoloFCantoni (my username) - got caught by that before in this latter forum.

Yeah, it's unlikely to be Paolo wanting everyone's insides.

I downloaded the latest v13 Beat and found it in the MDG Technologies directory. You can import the ArchiMate v3 MDG that comes withe the beta into v12.1 and the migrate script is in the MDG. Gets imported into the TOOLS -> Scripts. Called "Migrate ArchiMate 2 to ArchiMate 3" funnily enough  ;D

On the subject: has anyone tried to upgrade a modified/custom MDG from a previous Version. We have extended ArchiMate 2.1 and would like to update the extension to use v3.0. Is there a recipe somewhere?

I guess you should be mostly fine with just a string replace from Archimate2:: to Archimate3:: in your MDG. A cross check whether the renamed elements are defined in Archimate3 could be done by referencing the MDG source file.
