MDG Technologies - Creating new metaclasses
« on: August 10, 2010, 01:46:29 am »
Hi.

I have just started exploring the possibilities for making some adaption/extension to the UML we use to make Enterprise Architect documentation, using MDG Technologies.

I have looked into the Enterprise Architect documentation, in chapter 18, SDK for Enterprise Architect, and have make some test based on an example (page 1620 in documentation) on how to define a stereotype as a metatype, using the _metatype attribute.

What I now would like to do, which I have not found a solution for yet, is to create new stereotypes that extends this new metatype. As an example, I have created 'Server' as a metatype. I would like to add more stereotypes, like 'File server', 'DB Server', 'Web server', that extends the 'Server' metatype. Each of these stereotypes I will like to attach an icon to.

My problem right now is that I am not able to connect the 'File server' stereotype to the 'Server' metatype with an 'Extends' connection. I can only make an 'Extends' connection to the built in metaclasses.

I can see from other MDG technologies, that they have been able to add stereotypes that links to a customized metaclass/metatype.

As I am quite new to this, I might also mix up the terms metaclass and metatype?

Any suggestion on how to add customised Metaclasses, which I can later extend with new Streotypes?

Best regards,
Lorents
