haunted by old MDG menus
« on: September 22, 2016, 09:15:50 am »
Hi,
I wanted to see if it was anything obvious I was doing before I report it as a bug.

I am using MDG technology of my own making. In it I used to have a toolbar with some elements within it. However I have deleted the toolbox from the toolbar profiles, re-generated the MDG and XML profile files, but it still pops up in the Target Sparx Menus (and it is assigned to them all within my MDG which is odd).

I have checked in the MDG produced XML that I load and the menu name is not in there, so it must somehow be the residual effects of the target Sparx system.

There is only one MDG available on the extensions  menu, so there is no duplication problems etc.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue is or more importantly how to delete it?

Thanks,
Ian

One common cause of problems is if you accidentally save a profile to the wrong filename. If you aren't super-alert, you could end up with the same toolbox profile included in more than one technology. Try disabling all technologies and re-enable them one at a time, see which technology brings the unwanted toolbox back.

Have a look in the Resources window (Alt+6) and see if you have any imported Profiles or Technologies in there.

In the MDG Technologies dialog, select your technology and see where EA says it is located. You may be pointing at an old version of the technology.

Fun thing also is that in case you have the same technology loaded in different ways, EA will only show you one, making you think all is fine.
But in fact you might be using the wrong one. I'm not sure which type of loading an MDG has preference (path, imported in user, imported in model)

Hi - just a follow-up - I tried loading the MDG on a different machine on a local database and still got the same ghost  Toolbox items.
Really weird as they simply do not exist in the XML file.

I was thinking of writing to Stephen King, a good subject for a novel ;-)

Well, you've got a month or so before publication!  :D
