« on: January 11, 2017, 09:22:32 am »
Is there way to turn off the ribbon menu and use the classic menu bar?

Thanks

No, but right-click > Minimize the Ribbon might help.

Can you please (* 100  :) ) add it back, with the option of having mixed case labels?

IMO, ribbon menus are not user friendly to say the least, and I don't understand why every company jumps to include unconditionally this design in their software, because it doesn't make things better vs. the classic menu.

I like very much though the Find Command feature.

Thanks

You're not alone with that opinion. However, there is very, very little hope to see a change here the next 10 years (until it will be replaced by something even worse). I'm using V12 as long as possible...

I've been restrained in my last message and I didn't say exactly what I think about ribbon menus. Hint: !@#$%^&

That's too bad. I guess I will turn them off as suggested by KP  and use the find command feature.

Classic menu bar / Standard Menu Bar

The new menu and ribbon bar from version 13 is terrible. TERRIBLE.
Different organization of almost any modern application.
I do not see the logic behind the groupings.
Close to impossible to link the help one find in guides, videos, online help to this menu.

Please Please reconsider this change.

Pretty sure that won't ever happen.

But if you are re-learning EA anyway then you better go directly to v14 as they once again re-shuffled everything :-\

I think the Sparx concept behind re-shuffling frequently is a kind free of charge user training.

By keeping the users searching around, those might detect some features they had neither ever seen nor ever missed. ;)

I never saw any logic behind any of the (now) 13 menu versions of each version. There probably a bunch of chimps sitting there and click around to arrange the menus. Imagin that in endless EA versions there will be one that's brilliant. Just sit and wait.

But honestly, yes. The ribbons are the worst of all.

I do not agree. I think the ribbons are an improvement of the classic menu structure, especially for new users.

Downside is of course that we "oldies" have to re-learn the location of all actions/buttons.

It is just too bad they couldn't get it right the first time and decided to mix everything up again between v13 and v14

Nah... We've just been "together" for longer than we both care to remember. (and qwerty makes three)

Anyway, in some 48 hours or so, I'll be able to wave to Geert as we fly over teh Channel on the way to a four week holiday in the UK (from Oz).

Happy Friday everybody!

Well the ribbon isn't bad in v14 and it does help new users discover stuff. I still find I'm clicking backwards and forwards to find things that I know are there but don't know where.

Agree with some of the comments about the logic of grouping of the commands in the ribbons - does seem like its done by chimps sometimes. Or may be its artificial intelligence? You know like intelligence but not.

Think the reason the menus on many windows apps were successful was there were standards of menus like File... Edit... etc where you knew what was under them. The ribbons don't seem to have a standard they follow so its a bit pot luck. So if vendors want ribbons to be a success they ought to work together to have some kind of standard group so the users know where things are.

I do note that Microsoft are revamping there ribbons to make them simpler
https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/13/microsoft-office-ui-redesign-simpler-ribbon/

And for those of us who used windows back in the  late 80's you can probably remember tool boxes along the top that were similar to ribbons. They got rid of those for about 20 years then brought them back and called them ribbons.

Just saying nothing seems to be new just re branded with a bit of randomness put in.

And don't get me started about Agile being new.
Happy to help
:)
