no lock context menu and other issues
« on: July 29, 2017, 12:47:02 am »
I am using the Enterprise Architect Version 13.5 (Corporate Edition) and I have some issues with locks. I have enabled the User Security.

1. The "User/Group Locking" option described in http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/13.5/team_support/lockingpackages.html can only be activated by using Design->Package->Manage->Lock (for a package). In the "Project Browser" view there is simply no lock option in the context menu. But it should be there, right?

2. The "Require User Lock to Edit" option described in http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/13.5/team_support/applyauserlock.html blocks everything, but then it is not possible to lock anything. The "Lock" options in Design ribbon are blocked (grey). I cannot select them even as admin. And again, I dont have the lock option in the context menu... How can I edit elements if the "Require User Lock to Edit" is activated?

Any idea what went wrong?

The RULtE works vice versa. Everything is locked unless you unlock it. The first one to unlock an element/package holds the key to manipulation. Only when the lock is returned other people can try to get the lock. I can't help with V13 but in V12 and all former versions it was my choice of working in groups.

This is how I expected it to work.

But the issue is that once the "Require User Lock to Edit" is active the elements/packages cannot be locked. There is simply no way to edit the elements. Even an admin cannot lock an element in order to edit it. What am I missing? And why is there no context menu for locking in the package browser view.

For my colleague who uses ea version 12 it works as it is described in the manual.

But something is messed up in the ea version 13. :(

In that case you should probably report it formally to Sparx.

In version 13 is still in the context menu.
For package look at
- Package Control | Apply/Release User Lock
For other items its
- Apply/Release User Lock.

If yo don't have these options available in your context menu then you should probably look at the menu set you are using. You might be working with a limited menu set hiding the locking options from your GUI.

I just installed 13.5 and also had no issues finding Apply User Lock.

q.

P.S. I notice that the "Enable Security" option still reads "Enable" iso. "Disable" once the security had been turned on. *shaking head*

Thank you Geert, this helped! Somehow my menu set has been modified. I didn't even know that the menu can be modified. But now everything works as expected.
