How to become and Enterprise Architect.
« on: January 01, 2018, 09:54:07 am »
Hello,

I am a 32 year old man working in investments and I just learned about Enterprise Architecture and am fascinated.  It seems like something that fits my ENTP visionary and problem solving  mind.  What do I do to get there?  Thanks in advance.

LOL - it's New Year since 1 hour here. Well, gain a lot of experience and you're there.

What qwerty said.

I have an undergraduate degree, and a Master's degree, and have been working in IT for about 20 years.

I'm probably about half way there.

For reference, qwerty and AndyJ, what other architecture roles have you performed or are performing currently?

I'm currently within Infrastructure Architecture but often have to adapt to Solution Architecture depending on the business need but don't have any real aims at present to move towards Enterprise Architecture.

When and why did you make to move towards Enterprise Architecture?

Thanks
Darren

(Argh. Wrote a longer answer and when sending my internet broke down.)

First: I'm not entitled "Enterprise Architect" but my resume will likely allow me to do so. My background: worked in bits and pieces up to large development projects, quite some analysis projects, project leader and of course architectural projects, not few of them being a mix of all. Soft factors: develop a model and fight for it, make the right compromises, know your strengths and seek for help where you are weak, focus but don't loose the overview.

Generally those titled Enterprise Architect are very entitled leading to poor engagement with the business and other architects :-)

I'd agree. Many of those Enterprise Blurbs, Evangelists, etc. are just good in selling themselves.

I feel January is a bit too early in the year for that level of joke :-)
