v14 Beta: Missing MDG
« on: March 08, 2018, 01:19:17 pm »
Trying to open our production repository (SQL Server) I get:
Access to this model requires the following technologies which are not available:
SIMPLE

Which MDG is this message referring to?

Reported,
Paolo

Thanks, Simon,

editing the t_genopt table did the trick as mentioned by Zvolensky.  However, we normally access EA repositories via MS Acces Linked Tables.  MS Access refused to allow us to edit the rows.  Had to go to SQL Server Management Studio to edit the rows.  Not clear why MS Access had trouble.

Paolo

PS: Also seems to have resolved the MDG enable/disable crashing topic.  See v14 Beta: Technologies dialog crashing

I have the same problem with the SIMPLE MDG missing.

I guess there is a bug here as I could open that model without issues in version 13.5

In version 13 there used to be a Simple UML Views MDG which is not not present anymore, and in one of my models this was a mandatory MDG.

I think this issue should really be addressed. You can't really expect users (who generally don't have a previous version of EA available) to go and edit the database directly just so they would be able to load the model.

Geert

PS. I solved it by opening the model with version 13 and removing the MDG requirement.

I can confirm that 'Simple Model Views' technology is not included in version 14.0.

The functionality that it contained has been included in other technologies, which offer a substantially improved set of model patterns. It's worth having a look at the model wizard to see how it has been expanded.

As for what to do about it, I'm not sure what's best. I don't like any of the solutions I can think of at the moment.

I think EA v14 should make an exception for this MDG and simply ignore the fact that it has been set as required.

And then remove it from the list on the way through...

Not necessarily,  that would impact users who are still on version 13.5
Suppose I was testing version 14, then I wouldn't want my tests to have any impact on any of the other users who are still on version 13.5.
So I would rather opt to silently ignore the setting, but not remove it. (it's not like EA never silently ignores some right? ;D)
