Issue with BPMN Pool and elements
« on: March 21, 2018, 08:43:36 am »
I need to modify an exiting BPMN diagram containing pools and elements. There is a need to resize an existing Pool to include and nest some of  the elements (activities, gateways,...).  The EA doesn't allow Pool resizing over existing diagram elements. Tried to change the Pool properties but no desirable result

WHich version are you using. Is the Pool 'selectable'? and  the diagram editable. (and the Z Order is fine too)
AFAIK,  you must be able to resize Pools if the above two are fine. And also  you can place your Partitions to span over the elements to nest and move it slightly to make EA include the underlying elements (i.e. snap them).

I use EA 13.5
The pool is selectable and the diagram is editable (I mean the diagram can be modified), also I played with different Z Order options for the pool, but no success.

Currently I manage it by selecting, copying and moving required elements into newly created pool, which needs to be of sufficient size to nest/accept all these elements.
Basically, I can move/paste elements into Pool but can't enlarge the pool over elements if/when they are placed outside the pool.

I think that behavior is by design.

Putting an activity in a pool means that it's ownership is changed as well.
I guess they want to avoid that type of change happening by accident when changing the layout of the diagram.

PS Often holding the Alt key when dragging results in different behavior. Not sure if it applies in this case.

Thanks Geert, this has helped as holding ALT Key allowed extension of the Pool over new elements

In my case, I needed to right-click on the pool or lane and then set the mode from "printable" to "selectable". Then I could select and resize. ... whatever :-)
