Basic simulation issue

I've submitted a support request on this very basic issue, but am getting no support so far.  I'm a long-time Sparx EA user, but using simulation for the first time.  I just upgraded to 13.5, have all MDG technologies enabled, but cannot get any of the state machines in the EA Example Model to run properly in either interpreted or manual mode (Execute Simulation | {Interpreted, Manual} from the diagram context menu).  The Simulation toolbar seems to have Start enabled -- but nothing.  I get a totally silent failure to launch -- no error messages visible anywhere, and definitely no visual highlighting of the state diagram that the initial transition has occurred.

Has anyone been down this path before that can offer some advice?

Do you have the right EA version? Corporate, Unified or Ultimate is required.
