I have created a 4-level hierarchy, 4th level being a business process thread. However, I'm also trying to create a link on each level to connect to the next level, the purpose of this is to have the ability to drill down through all levels (starting from L0 to a L4 diagram). Currently, every level has a diagram on which I tried to drag and drop the elements nesting under this BP elements. Whenever I try to link these processes, it does create the link, but it simultaneously bumps up these elements to L0. Is this intentional? Is there any way to avoid this? Can these elements be linked on the diagram and remain at their level in the hierarchy?

Use 'Alt' key and drag and drop

If anything I thought it's using CTRL, but that doesn't work either. It pops up the menu but creating a link on the diagram automatically ejects it from the hierarchy.

I meant, when moving objects in and out of the parent diagram object if you use alt, the hierarchy will not be changed.

When you drag an element on a diagram, EA will reflect any structural changes in the project browser. I.E. if you drag one element on top of another, EA will structure the element inside the other in the project browser. If you drag an element out of another on the diagram, it will reflect in the project browser. If you have manually structured elements in the project browser, then move them on the diagram then EA will detect that the element is not structured inside anything and move it up to the top. This is default behaviour. Hold down the Alt key whilst moving on the diagram to prevent the restructuring. There is a setting in the options to turn the restructuring feature off (holding Alt then makes it work).
