Generate Documentation - Images too small
« on: July 19, 2018, 12:17:01 pm »
I'm using EA v14 but I also had the same issue with EA v13. When I generate documentation the diagram images are not sized appropriately, they appear in the document much smaller than they could be. It's difficult to read the diagrams when they're so small. I played with settings to see if I can somehow get EA to make them bigger but so far had no luck.
  • In preferences I increased image memory limit to max 512mb
  • Tried on/off option for zoom to best scale
  • Tried scale settings up to 400%
  • Tried different renderers

The diagrams when appearing in Word document are only sized to maybe 20-25% of the page width even though they could easily take up 80-100% of the page width.
I can manually edit the documents to make the images bigger but that's a laborious manual task that's not practical as we re-generate the documents quite frequently.

Can anybody help out?

It may be worth to Check your Page settings in EA and the page size to which you are printing your document.
Also, try''Divide diagram into multiple pages' option to see if that makes any difference.

I have the page setup for A4 size. Previously it was Letter size.
Also tried the "Divide Diagram into Multiple Pages" option but it makes no difference.

Here's a screenshot of the sizing issue

Anything else I can try?

You might have to enable page border and check if the diagram fits fill size in the A4 page. EA would only render the actual size (relative to page), so if you make it fully scaled in the diagram, you must be seeing a bigger image

The diagram is of appropriate size for the page. I can see page borders and the diagram is well sized for an A4 page. If I print just the diagram the size on page is okay.

The "shrinking" issue only occurs when exporting to documentation.

So... I still need a solution for this

Hi Kaalen,

Did you find a resolution to this? My images are generated incosistently - some too big, some too small

Well, I tried out a few things and figured out something that worked for me. Here goes...

Publish > Tools > Document Templates : select a particular template >  (toolbar icon)
The Diagram Format drop-down, click on the drop-down arrow and select the diagram format for the images included within the documentation; either Metafile or Bitmap. The default was Metafile, I changed it to Bitmap and voila! Images printed okay.

Hope someone finds this useful.

Cheerio

In my case the issue was caused by 4k resolution on my laptop. If I want the images to be generated with an appropriate size in the documents I need to close EA, set resolution to standard HD (1920x1080) and then generate the document. It's annoying.

Noting this is an old post, and old problem, and its still one I am having with EA 15.2

I generate a document and the diagram images are shrunken, only taking about about 60% of the width available to them.
Clipboard format is bitfile (setting it to metafile makes no difference)
Image memory limit is 512, scale saved bitmaps is 137%, changing it to 100% or 400% makes no difference.

I then moved to a single monitor (Surface 2736x1824 recommended) set up.
Still same problem diagram image is too small.

Changed screen scale to 100% (down from 200% recommended) and the image became truncated, only the top right corner of it shows.

Changed screen to 1920x1080 (and scale changed to 150% recommended),
diagram is truncated again (but less is truncated)

Changed screen to 100%,
and again image is truncated to the smaller size.

There doesn't seem a lot of rhyme or reason here,
any suggestions?
