Is EA v 14 ready for Enterprise use?
« on: August 14, 2018, 06:10:27 am »
We are about 25 architects using EA 13.52 (MS-sql) for UML, Archimate, BPMN as primarary modeling tool.
As i read the forums there are a lot of differences and strange problems (Bugs) with EA 14.xx compare to 13.5x.

Any one out there that did the transition to EA 14.x and can recommend this journey to hell or heaven??

Build 1423 seems to be working okay now. I note that V14.1 beta has been release with some archimate fixes.
The biggest obstacle is that they've changed where things are in the UI so it can be a little bit frustrating.
We usually get two or three members of the team to trail blaze and try out the new versions for 2 or 3 weeks so they can assist the others when they migrate over.

Hej Steen,

I haven't evaluated the 14.1 beta that dropped earlier this week, but I noticed that it lists this feature:
  • Added option to automatically maintain the list of available users based on Windows Active Directory or OpenID groups
That, to me, is a huge step in the right direction for EA-in-the-Enterprise. Any enterprise solution has to be integratable into and manageable within the prevalent enterprise standards -- that's pretty much what the term means.

The fact that they use a proprietary licensing solution remains a problem, but if they make it possible to manage project access control using standard tools only, that's really encouraging.

My theories are always correct, just apply them to the right reality.

I'm a bit in dubio.

On the one hand 1423 indeed seems to be a more or less stable version, but then I see that in v14.1 they are bringing back the attributes and operations dialog, which is much more user-friendly then the current docked window in v14.

I would say, if you have a couple of months time to wait until v14.1 is stable then it might be worth the wait.

Yes with V14.1 beta making an appearance I concur with Geert on waiting a few months for a stable version of V14.1
Haven't had any stability problems with V14 Build 1423 and been using it for a couple of weeks now.

BTW: The attributes and operations dialog doesn't appear to be in V14.1 Build 1425 so you need to ensure  the notes window is enabled to add notes to those.
