High CPU usage
« on: January 19, 2019, 02:43:06 am »
Hello,
EA 12.1
Windows 10 on i7, 16GB RAM.

What can cause such high cpu usage? Not even project open, only EA running. All add-ons turned off. It's not only the case on my laptop. My workmates also report the same problem. EA just causes noise from venting CPU.
How can I check what part of EA is using extensively the processor?
Thanks

You seem to have a custom MDG loaded. Have you tried to remove this custom MDG file?

Do you mean custom made components on the left toolbar?
If so, how can these static (?) elements consume so much cpu?
Thanks for the answer though.

If it's just the stereotypes defined in the MDG, then you're right. But often a MDG comes with add-ins that can run wild. Just try turning off the MDG (and any other unspecific MDG) to see if the problem persists.

I have no clue how or why, but
- you have the CPU problem and you have the custom MDG
- I don't have the CPU problem and I don't have the custom MDG

So it seems like the most obvious difference between you and me is the custom MDG (or toolbox), so the first step I would take it remove the most obvious difference and see if that changes anything.

You don't actually know EA is the culprit.  It could be anything.

Install and run process monitor (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon).  Open EA and see what is happening.
