Activation Code procedure
« on: February 10, 2019, 09:22:33 pm »
For some time now - I guess it was EA13 - new users have to enter an Activation Code when starting EA the first time.
I wonder whether there is some documentation about it.
What is the intended procedure an IT center of a not-so-small company should distribute that Activation Code to the employees using EA after installation of a new version of EA remotely and over night?

For my company where we use EA Corporate Floating, there is an Activation Code for EA 14.x only, but this we put in the EA.400 Registered as documented by Sparx when we deploy as MSI-package with SCCM.

as documented by Sparx

The question was: "where" is it documented.

Yes, but it says nothing about how to create an EA company installation package, which do not need maybe hundreds of users to insert the activation code after the installation.

You are right! In previous versions you could follow the instructions in https://sparxsystems.com/downloads/whitepapers/EA_Deployment.pdf (page 20, Remote installation), but this PDF was created in 2014, so doesn't contain the update of the activation key.

I suggest to write to [email protected] in order to ask if remote installation now includes a unknown option for enter the activation key. Please share the answer with us in this post!

I will give my IT in the next days the task to prepare a V14 installation package.
Currently I assume, they have to add in the windows registry under Sparx Systems/EA400/EA/Settings the following properties:
ActivationCode (the ActivationCode)
ActivationDate (a somehow valid date like 2018-05-03 08:29:27)
I will come back to this issue if that does not work.
Best regards,

You are right Peter. This is the registry location in my PC (Spanish windows):
Equipo\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3473786781-1724258867-2148677412-1001\Software\Sparx Systems\EA400\EA\Settings
And the keys seems to be ActivationCode and ActivationDate, as you said.
