MagicDraw MDzip to EA
« on: February 28, 2019, 07:20:09 am »
Has anyone had success importing from MagicDraw to EA? Specifically, files that contain custom profile diagrams along with other diagrams with elements that apply the custom stereotypes. It appears that a majority of the information gets transferred (elements, relationships, etc) but the custom stereotypes and associated tags do not. Is there a way to do this successfully without a lot of rework?

Try searching for magicdraw. You need to use the tiny "Search" link top left (near to so important Home". The Search field to the right does not reveal anything. I have not the faintest idea what it's good for. Probably to confuse the Russians (as we tended to say in Germany). The top Search again is to again confuse anyone not being from the planet Sparx. A weird, weird planet.

LOL I have already done a search and the search did not return anything specifically related to the ability EA has to import custom stereotypes and elements that apply the custom stereotypes within the same file. The stereotypes show up as being "applied" but the tags did not carry over which means the stereotypes is being applied correctly.

The problem with all XMI transfers is that in best case it works between tools of the same vendor. You can be lucky to transfer basic elements. But when it comes to diagrams you usually get nothing or rubbish. Profiles are in the same league. You can blame each XMI producer since they are all in that so-called OMG. Oh my God.

Yeah, it is what it is.

We wrote a whole migration tool to do all sorts of corrections when we migrated a big Magicdraw model last year.
