Is Sparx Asleep at the wheel ?
« on: April 02, 2019, 11:12:31 am »
After more than one year using EA (much less than many people here I concede), I like enormously the product, but I can't help but realize that this modeling tool is rather unpolished and unfinished. It could be a terrific tool that crush competition, if they would finish the job and keep the modeling capability up to date. Just think about the horrible distortion in BPMN 2.0 models, limitation of relationship matrix, complexity and unfriendliness of reporting, etc

I wonder why they refuse to provide this last effort to have a truly sophisticated AND polished tool. Any idea ??

I could write a lengthy story about that. But I'm just too old to waste my time. Listen, young fellow, Sparxians are from another planet and have different ethics and culture. You can't argue with them.

I suspect massive code refactoring would be needed, a big expense that would not result in any bullets in the marketing brochures.  Usability does not sell licenses, features do.

If all their coders are busy with a major rewrite and not fixing bugs and supporting the latest fad, where exactly would the money come from for salaries and rent et al.

Key selling point for us when we chose EA was the amount of functionality and languages it did support. For example - if you needed UML you used tool A. Needed database modelling Tool B.
So you would lock your company into the modelling tool that you bought. Hammer and everything is a nail....

I wish Sparx EA be more focus on bugfixing and releasing bugfix builds. Last Official Version: 14.1 Build 1429 06-Mar-2019. Two months without a new bugfix build for 14.1. That's too long. Seems like Sparx is asleep at the wheel when it comes to bugfixes. Maybe the develoeprs are busy with new features? Guess new features might not come very often, but bug should be fixed continously and released often as bugfix builds.

@arekjaeraas: No. When it's at bugfixes they have enormous speed - driving backwards :-/
