Package Icon reverts to default
« on: April 18, 2019, 05:33:51 pm »
We have certain package trees which must be structurally immutable.  Our automation relies on a consistent structure throughout the repository.
Our users accidentally or otherwise occasionally disrupt the structure - sometimes causing considerable havoc.
SO we created a special folder stereotype and accompanying icon to warn users that this part of the repository structure is not to b be tampered with.

Imagine our surprise (well, only for a second, it is EAUI after all) when the folder icon reverted to the default folder icon under some, as yet unidentified, scenarios (though one seems to be Reload current package contents).  Once it's been reverted, the only way to restore the icon in this session is to re-apply the stereotype (suggesting a t_xref synchronisation problem).

Please rectify!

Reported,
Paolo

From memory, packages have never supported a custom icon at all. I'm not aware of a change that was intended to add that functionality, which suggests the temporary visibility is actually a bug.

Well, obviously, they do support a custom icon.  Whether it's intentional or not is moot.

As to "temporaryness", it just reverts occasionally.  Most of the time (pretty overwhelmingly) it's fine.  That's why I reported the behaviour.  From the user point of view, it's the reversion that's anomalous, not the setting.

I think this was a fairly recent change. I think they started supported it no earlier than version 14

User-defined package icons only seems to be partly supported in EA 14. User-defined package icons are invisible in the project browser section in a generated HTML-report. No icons will be displayed for those packages.
