MDG in V14
« on: July 18, 2019, 01:33:22 am »
I'm currently trying to get my hands on the View Specification introduced in V14. Besides the fact that I had to find the menu (hmm, WHIMM would be a nice one: WHere Is My Menu) and having read about saving profiles (respectively why once can't do so with a package) I have an issue with that MTS not showing exported profile xml files any longer. Any hint?

(If someone got a write up how to deal with View Specification that would be nice. The EA docs are as usual just a "click here click there" without relating the use case.)

What I did was to export a profile with a single View Specification extending Class and Exposing something. The created xmi looks to be "something" but when starting that MTS it refuses to show that xmi.

If you don't add a version to your profile when exporting, it doesn't show up in the MDG wizard.
I always make sure to fill in all fields just in case..

Yes, that's it! EA is really great in just letting the user walk in the mist...

Thanks, Geert!

P.S. The best is: EA does not enforce to have a version number when exporting. And since we are at it: this export to xmi (where you always store the export in the wrong place) and then combine those exports via that dreaded MTS (which is absolutely not portable between different users) is sooo 20th century. Why not have a <<MDG>> element, hook that to the packages and diagrams and then just context create an MDG from that?

Hi

I presented a demo of the view specifications within EA 14 MDG along with stereotyped relationships and metaconstraints at the recent EAUG meeting in Gdansk

The example MDG eap (eapx) file should be available for download on the EAUG website, but does not appear to be there, maybe you have to register on the site first?

If you want me to send you the MDG Model, then I would be happy to do so, just send me a PM with an e-mail address and I will send it off

All the best

Phil
