Separators in toolboxes
« on: August 08, 2019, 08:26:16 pm »
Why is it that when you have a toolbox with multiple extensions for a diagram that EA shows these as a single flat list? Like

Elem1
Elem2
Conn1
Conn2
Pattern

But when you open that very same menu via the Other/MDG/... menu it puts separators between the single extensions.

Elem1
Elem2
------
Conn1
Conn2
------
Pattern

Probably EAUI.

q.

Btw.: When in this century will it be possible to illustrate something without having to go to some 2nd external server?

I haven't noticed that.
Seems like all the toolboxes I see are formatted consistently the same way.

I can assume you're using V15? I'm on 13.5.

I'm on anything between 12.1 and 15 yes, depending on the particular client I'm working for.

Then I'm confused

Did you rather mean inconsistently?

q.
No, I meant consistently. I've never seen two different versions of a toolbox.

That makes me puzzled since I see NO separators when hitting space in the MDG diagram while I DO see them via the Other menu :-?

The first level of the toolbox context menu shows all the active pages flattened.

The 'Other' menu (which was replaced with a dialog in v14 from memory) must have shown each page with a separator.

Obviously. But why aren't there separators from the space bar menu? In V14 there's that nasty Other menu which opens a crowded  window which is even more a mess. So I guess there will be no healing for this. Wonder what awaits me in V15 :-/

Just to clarify what qwerty is talking about, it's the Toolbox Menu that is displayed on a diagram when you press the Spacebar.

Not the Diagram Toolbox, which is what is displayed to the side of the screen when you press Ctrl+Shift+3 (in Release 15.0) or select the Design > Diagram > Toolbox icon, and has the consistent layout that Geert refers to.

Learn something new every day!   Thanks, Roy!

Over 10 years of use of EA and I've never seen that!

Having said that, a quick play makes me agree with qwerty (surprise, surprise  ;) ).  Both menus should be structured in as similar way as possible.  In my view a case can be made that the Diagram toolbox menu [space] sections should not be collapsible, but the section separators should be present.  Thus while we might not then be Consistent, Consistent, Consistent! TM we might at least be  Consistent, Consistent! TM

Yeah... the formatting seems to have throttled itself at the end of your message.

Thanks, Roy,

Fixed.

It may not surprise you that the in-line WYSIWYG editor is less than optimal.
