Changing default styles

is it possible to change the settings for the default style?


Or is it what is specified in Preferences -> Diagram -> Appearance?

I would describe selecting default there as 'unspecified'. That means that the element/connector is displayed according to the next highest setting, with the trail ending at the global appearance settings (and the defaults for those.)
