Parent element header line
« on: October 02, 2019, 03:59:04 pm »
Hi there,

When I drag a parent element onto a diagram it is drawing a line underneath the name of the element. It only does this when its children are included inside the parent element.

If I leave the children outside of the parent element in the diagram the line does not appear.

Does anyone know how I can remove this line?

Thanks,
Rupert

Hi Rupert,

I presume you aren't talking about embedded elements (as children), but items nested in the browser with some other relationship to the "parent" and visually embedded.
Also, you didn't mention the EA version.

You'll also have to specify which type of element exactly, and what those "children" are exactly.

There are my possible interpretations of the relation "parent/child"

Apologies. Yes, items nested in the browser is what I meant.

Thanks,

It sounds to me that you have a compartment for showing child elements in the parent on a diagram. When the child elements are also on the diagram they do not show in the parent element, and the compartment (and hence the divider line for the compartment) does not show.

Right-click on the element and select the 'Compartment Visibility' option. See if the 'Structure Compartment' checkbox is selected (I'm not absolutely sure it's that one, off the top of my head).
Best Regards, Roy

Hi Roy,

All the 'Show Element Compartments' checkboxes are unchecked. I can't see one in the list called 'Structure'.

Thanks anyway,
Rupert

Perhaps as a last gasp - also check the Diagram Properties window 'Compartments' tab, or the Diagram Properties dialog 'Elements' tab. The compartment could be called ChildElement, and it would have been applied using a ShapeScript.

What type of element is the parent? Does it automatically display in rectangular notation or do you have to set it to that notation? And are you listing the names of the child elements, or actually showing the child element shapes inside the parent?

Best Regards, Roy
