Modified BPMN diagram layout when reopened
« on: November 07, 2019, 08:55:37 pm »
Hello,
I couldn't find a forum message on this issue although I've experienced it before.
A client still uses EA13 (cannot upgrade at the moment) and I sometimes notice that the BPMN diagrams are not rendered as when they were last saved once reopened (connectors or labels moved...)
Is it a known issue that has perhaps been resolved in 14 or 15?

Thanks
Guillaume

Hi Guillaume,

If the connectors and labels are connected to Gateways and the connectors' style is orthogonal, it could be known bug and already fixed (at least on the latest build - I forget when it was fixed.).

Hi Takeshi,

Thank you for your reply. It's nice to hear that it should have been fixed for some time now. It'll test it with the latest version.

V15 have broken something for BPMN modeling, don't know if it is the problem you are describing. Essentially, when you re-open a BPMN diagram, some sequence flows originating from a gateway see the arrow end changed to "open" and a connector label is added ("sequence flow"). I have found that if you set the "visibility" to public, it fixes it. Quite amazing that such a bug has been introduced in a basic modeling capability. Sparx support told me it is a known bug and will be fixed in a "future" release (no indication when). This is the Issue ID: 19082858

If you add the following old bugs that Sparx does not want to fix :
1) the amazing "distortion" bug that makes the shapes of gateways and events (circle) ridiculously distorted when you scroll the diagram,
2) the infamous bug that sometimes switch the outgoing connection points of gateway sequence flow to the incoming junction

then the BPMN modeling tool in EA seems more like a amateur tool, a beginner developpers contest or a bad joke. To see a good and simple BPMN modeling tool (although it has limitations), see Camunda Modeler (free download).
