Maximum size of package for ArchiMate Exchange File Format?

I'd like to export part of an ArchiMate model into the ArchiMate exchange format but I'm getting the error "Selected Package too large for generating Model Exchange File Format." Does anyone know what the maximum size is and what governs that maximum size?
Is there a good workaround? The pop-up tells me to try exporting the individual child packages which executes without error but I lose the links between the elements in different sub-packages which doesn't meet my needs.

I think you best contact Sparx Support.

Personally I think this is a plain and simple bug that needs to be solved.
