different view for same file and EA version
« on: February 10, 2020, 10:37:32 pm »
I have a .eap file in my shared folder and if my colleague opens this file he doesn't see all the packages in the project, while I see them and both of our version are the same version 12. How can I make sure that we always have the same up to date project state, so with the correct packages?

Switch to a central DB. EAP == Mickeysoft Access and not meant to be operated over a network.

thanks qwerty for your response. But I don't mean that I open the file at the same time from two workstations( machine 1 & 2) but what I mean is I open the .eap in machine 1, then close it and then open it on machine 2 with the same EA version 12....and I don't see all the packages which I could see before on machine 1

That does not seem reasonable. There is no way to "hide" packages. Try running a consistency check. Also, try access from different work stations.

querty, I don't understand it either but believe me I have checked x times to see whether I'm opening the same file from different locations. I don't see anything special about the missing packages. I did the integrity check which came out fine and opened the file on a different workstation but no luck so far. The view on the new machine matches one of the two but not a combination.

I have seen many things between heaven and earth. So, another riddle. Anyhow, I'd suggest you contact Sparx support. Sounds too strange to get ideas without looking into the repo.

Hi

Very strange … this is probably not the case but are you sure that on machine 2 you are using the Project Browser to view the repository and not Model Views which have been setup with some form of filter?

If indeed both instances of EA are viewing the same repository using the Project Browser, but getting different results, then this is indeed very strange, and not something I have ever encountered.

Would it be possible to post screen shots showing this behaviour?

All the best

Phil

I agree with Phil and q.
What you are describing is ... unlikely ... :-X

I'm pretty sure there's some kind of misunderstanding with regards to the file, or the actual view used.

Wot they sed!

If it were me faced with this situation, I would open the .eap file with MS Access and confirm by making a change "under the covers" that I was indeed looking at the same file, then confirming the change in EA.  (for example, change the name of an element that you can see in both views).

That may reveal some anomaly...

Hello wbahadoer,

I know a bug of JET 3.5 library which EA does not show some information even if they exist. I do not know if your issue is the same as this, but it is worth to enable 'Use JET 4.0 - requires restart' option in the Preference dialog.

If the same issue, the Package might be seen.
