Has anybody come across an exploding .eap file?
« on: March 10, 2020, 07:07:13 pm »
We are using EA 13 Corp. edition with subversion.

My .eap file (after compact) is just less dan 30MB. Before compact it was about 170MB.
If I create a new project based on my local copy that .eap file is about 290MB.
If a coworker gets the full set from the subversion repository (so inclusing about a dozen packages I did not recently check out) and tries to build a local file from it it will fail because the file size is over 1GB.
Has anybody any idea what could be the reason why the file size expands so rapidly?
I dare not check out anything that was recently changed by someone else until we can return to normal behaviour.

EAP = Mickesysoft Access. You need to compact it manually. Use Configure/Check Integrity/Manage .EAP/Compact (who put this at this place?).

I know how to compact. My problem is that when we create a new .eap file it suddenly is over 1GB and therefore incomplete. No chance to compact during this process. I guess we must have put something in the data, but we can't figure out what.

My expected initial file size for a new .eap after loading the model branch should be less than 200 MB (possibly less than 50MB) even. In stead I'm getting over 1GB.

A new EAP is copied from program files/Sparx/EAxx/EABase.eap. Look what you got there.

Hi Erik,
Check if you are using Access 95 (Jet 3.5).  If you are, stop it.  convert to Jet 4.  As qwerty says, check which version is being stored in the eap and eapx files in the EA folder.

See if that helps.  Once you've converted to Jet 4.0 we can provide further advice if the issue hasn't resolved itself.

I've been using EA for over a decade and NOT once have I used JET 3.5.
