Extending an existing MDG
« on: June 03, 2020, 08:07:27 pm »
Hi
I have a MDG from a third party in xml format.
Is it possible to load this into EA and extend it?

Thanks

No. You can create your MDG using external stereotypes manually, though.

I think you actually can.

You can redefine existing stereotypes, and add your own tagged values and stuff.
Just have to make sure you set your MDG as "Active" so it knows your MDG trumps the existing MDG.

Hi Graham,

As Geert mentions you can extend or redefine stereotypes in another MDG Technology, but you can't reverse-engineer one back into a set of models.

If you really need to reverse-engineer an existing technology it isn't actually impossibly hard to do -- depending on the technology's complexity -- but it can get you into murky waters wrt intellectual property.
