ArchiMate: Associating a Data Object with a Relationship
« on: July 21, 2020, 05:19:52 pm »
Hello together,

I'd like to denote which Data Objects are transferred across a relationship in ArchiMate. I'm using EA 15.1 to create the model.
Example: Business Function A --Data Object--(Flow)--> Business Function B

I can connect the two Business Functions with a flow relationship, but I'm unable to create the additional association between the Data Object and the Flow relationship.
I already disabled already the "Strick Connector Syntax" in the preferences
Am I missing here something on how this could be done in EA?
Or is this not supported by EA? According to the standard of ArchiMate 3 this should be possible.

Best regards

Boris

According to the standard of ArchiMate 3 this should be possible.

Where about in the ArchiMate 3 standard says it is possible?

According to the table on https://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/archimate3-doc/apdxb.html#_Toc10045480, it should be possible to create an access or an assocoation relationship between a Business Function and a Data Object but this is not what you are trying to do. You are creating a flow between 2 business functions and you want to attached/associate a data object to the flow.

I am not sure this is permitted in Archimate 3.

Hello Modesto Vega,

Quote
I am not sure this is permitted in Archimate 3.

I was refering to chapter 5.2.4 "Association Relationship" in the AchiMate documents (https://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/archimate31-doc/chap05.html#_Toc10045321) showing in the corresponding example what I like to achive.

Best regards

This has been fixed for EA 15.2
Do you mean to say this would be fixed on EA 15/2? According to the Registered Users Section of the website. EA 15.2 is still in Beta.

Thanks, much appreciated. I would always learn something new about ArchiMate.
