Hi all,

I am currently working to create an architectural model of a simple satellite. I am making use of a custom MDG-Technology perspective that defines specific satellite-related blocks (assemblies, components etc.) and interfaces (electrical, thermal, mechanical etc.) - see picture.

The main aim of this is to use the Relationship Matrix to track the various interfaces between the different satellite elements (i.e. electrical interfaces between specific subsystem components). Within the Relationship Matrix I understand there is the ability to track from a selection of multiple element and link types, and the option to "Change Perspective" - I assume to allow tracking of elements and interface types that are defined within a Custom MDG-Technology perspective.

However, after choosing my custom perspective from "User Perspective", there is no change in the selection of element or interface type that can be selected (see picture). Consequently, I cannot show the desired custom interfaces within the Relationship Matrix. The only interfaces of my model that I can see are the basic "Aggregation" relationships which just relate to how the model is constructed, which are not of any interest.

I want to ask if there are other options that must be chosen to allow custom relationships to be visualised within the Relationship Matrix - also is it possible to visualise multiple relationship types at once (rather than having to produce different matrix documents for each separate interface type that is of interest)

Thanks

You can select "all perspectives" to show all possible relation types.

There is also an option to show any relation type in the matrix.

Hi Geert,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately even when I choose to display all perspectives, the custom MDG interfaces still aren't displayed. Additionally, my software appears to have no option for displaying all link types - only a single one at a time (unlike with elements where all types can be displayed).

However, I might have noticed the issue (or at least one of them). The different custom relationships are stereotypes of the Association relation type - would this mean that I could only see if an Association relation type is present, and not the individual custom relationships? (see picture below)

However, it is possible to view the different interface types when looking at the model through the diagram "Relation Matrix View" (see picture) - but this is not much use as there is no way to export this matrix view as a CSV or image. Additionally, this view allows the nesting of elements to be clearly seen, very useful for classifying subsystem components, which I cannot seem to accomplish using the Relationship Matrix tool which appear to be sorted alphabetically with no option to change the ordering.

Apologies for the inexperience, but I wanted to ask why the two matrix forms of displaying element relations seem to differ so significantly. I assume they both have different overall purposes, but they seem to aim to accomplish the same task.

Thanks
