Selection of nested elements on v15.2
« on: September 09, 2020, 05:54:41 pm »
I have an issue when selecting graphically nested elements on version v15.2 running on VMWare Fusion v11.5.6. In a nutshell, any attempt to select a nested element on a diagram results on the topmost containing element being selected.

This wasn't the case with v15.1 or previous versions.

So far, I have not found a workaround for this.

P.S.: The Z-Order does not have an effect on this.

Did a quick test on my EA, but I don't seem to have that problem.

I can select nested elements just fine.

Sorry Geert, I inadvertedly left an important detail out. I can select them individually but I cannot select more than one nested element using the shift key. Any attempt to select 2 nested elements using the shift key always results on the top most contained being selected instead of the nested element.

Just tried that as well, but still no problems. I can select as many nested elements (even of different nesting levels) as I want.
Works as I would expect it. I guess it's not a general problem with 15.2

... P.S.: The Z-Order does not have an effect on this.
Have you tried setting the parent's object value to "Send to back" and giving it a go? In my instance of EA, setting the Z-Order oftentime does tend to resolve the "select child elements" issue. It's frustrating, for sure! Lack of attention to user experience.

Unfortunately, it does not work. It is very frustrating indeed.

Sorry Geert, I inadvertedly left an important detail out. I can select them individually but I cannot select more than one nested element using the shift key. Any attempt to select 2 nested elements using the shift key always results on the top most contained being selected instead of the nested element.
That's the problem. Shift has two behaviors. It toggles selection areas, but it also reverses the selection to allow you to select from the back. (I think this behavior goes back to the dawn of EA, but I just confirmed it happens in v10) Control on the other hand only toggles selection for the clicked item.

Aaahhh...   That may explain some of the weird behaviour I've been seeing!

Thanks for the clarification, but it is there a wok around for this?.

Use Ctrl-Click to select items (instead of Shift-click)

If I got that right temporarily un-setting "Selectable" could be a work around. (I also remember some hassle when dealing with such nested elements but somehow I always get it to work - as usual.)

Use Ctrl-Click to select items (instead of Shift-click)

Geert

This worked but only after changing the VM Fusion mouse settings to use the Mac Profile, with the Windows 10 profile enabled it does not work.

Edit: Just to add more context with VM Fusion Windows 10 profile enabled, Ctrl-Click cause the right click context menu to appear.
