Start page: recent, pinned and watched
« on: September 10, 2020, 05:45:23 pm »
Hi all,

I had a look at the start page. I guess someone should.

#1: Open and Launch are good. Keep those.

#2: Phraseology. On the page, it's "Open repository", but in the context menus we find
          "Open Project"
          "Pin Connection"
          "Launch" without a noun
          "Remove Selection" (Recent list)
"Remove" without a noun (Pinned list)
          "Watched Models".
      Pick one.

#3: Middle mouse button should launch the connection in a new session.

#4: It should be possible to show connection strings from the Recent list.
Right now you can only show them from Pinned.

#5: What is the use case for editing a pinned connection string?
Why does that case not also apply to a recent one?

#6: Showing the connection string in a tooltip would be nice, instead of having to right-click and select a menu item.
The menu item could be retained for editing the connection string.

#7: If you Pin a connection in the Recent list, it moves to Pinned. If you then Remove it from there, it does not move back to Recent.
It should, provided it has been accessed sufficiently recently of course.

#8: If you try to open a connection and it can't be found, EA should offer to remove it from the list.

#9: You can add a recent connection to the Watched list, but not a pinned connection.

#10: If you add a connection to the Watched list, there is no indication that it's on the list.
If you then right-click the same connection, the menu item Add to Watched List is still enabled but doesn't do anything.

#11: There should be a menu item Remove from Watched List.

#12: The Help button in the Manage Models dialog (which contains the Watched list) doesn't do anything.

#13: The menu items Configure Watched Models and Add to Watched List open a dialog called Manage Models.

This is all on 15.1.1528. I'm waiting for 15.2 to be out of beta (actual, not marketing) before I upgrade.

Hey guys,

I had a response from Sparx a while back. Goes like this:

Quote
2. We have confirmed the inconsistency. The list label mentions 'Repository' but the list and context menu mention 'Project'. We will fix this in a future release.
Issue ID: 20095707

3. We have logged a Feature Request for a keyboard shortcut to launch project in new instance.

4. Please try 'Edit Connection Details' from the Recent sections context menu.

5. 'Edit Connection Details' context menu request.

6. I have logged this as a Feature Request and if it's approved it'll be added to a future release of EA.

7. I have logged a Feature Request to add removed list back to the recent list.

8. I have logged this as a Feature Request and if it's approved it'll be added to a future release of EA.

9. I have logged this as a Feature Request and if it's approved it'll be added to a future release of EA.

10. We have confirmed that this is an issue and it should be fixed in a future release of EA.
Issue ID: 20095707

11. The Delete button exists - fixed in EA15.2 and 16.

12. This has been fixed in version 15.2 and 16.

13. The dialog label should have been ' Manage Watched List' instead of 'Manage Models'.

So yeah -- most of these will be addressed, or have been already. :)

I've had similar responses.

I'm always intrigued by the "and if approved"... clause.  Has anybody had ANY notification that ANY Feature Request HAS been approved?

No. I recently sent a bug report and got one "can you please provide an example" which I did. Silence ever since. Sometimes I get a bug reference number. But then that's it too. No further response whatsoever.

Ah! The Sound of Sparx Silence. Tis such a wonderful thing, a sure sign the company cares about your opinion. My favourite interaction is: spending much time to detail bugs and potential solution(s). Send it off. Receive acknowledgement that it is indeed an issue. Release after release. Not a single bug has been addressed. Instead, somethhing new and shiny has moved in. Herein too is a problem, every new and shiny thing introduced is half-baked, half-tested and generally half-designed.
And, as with Apple products, customers throw dollars at EA.

I don't think the comparison with Apple makes much sense.
Apple products are usually priced well above the average for comparable products.
EA licenses are priced well below the average. (5% to 10% in some cases)

I'm not saying that EA can't do better, but it's a decent useful product for a very low price.

I'd pay more if they'd drop their marketing in favor of their development. The last few years I rather paid for nothing which is not to be measured in percentages :-/

Apple indeed is a different story. Still high prices with the genius being buried. Sitting in front of a MBP with a touchbar asking myself "who made this and why?". That's similar to quite some EA functionality. My liking in Apple product has a similar time curve as the for EA (but for very different reasons).

Lol!

;D The image was "blindly throwing money at a product regardless of its virtues". All I could think of at the time was "Apples".
You're right, EA is a decent product for a low price. But, as @qwerty mentioned, "I'd pay more if they'd drop their marketing in favor of their development".
