Colours on a View
« on: October 15, 2020, 10:05:33 am »
Hi,
I have created a portfolio of applications on a specific view, by assembling all of the applications currently used throughout the model.
I would like to change the background colour of the applications (in archimate)  to represent different status, so it gives a good visual representation.

When I change the colour however, it also affects the same elements , used in other models.
Is there a way to limit the colour to a view only?

Firstly, have a look at using border shadows for status.
Secondly, if the "shadow' isn't sufficient if the status is universal, that is it applies to all diagrams in which the item appears, then, by all means, change the default appearance (as you have done).
Thirdly, if it only applies to certain views than you can use the local appearance widget to only change the local appearance on the specific diagram.  (NOTE: the widget keeps changing in later versions, so I'm not specifying how to operate it.  In v15.2 b1554, it is the "Paintbrush" widget which appears when you select the item on the diagram.
Fourthly, you can create specific widgets to allow you to indicate "multiple" statuses (the real world) and apply them via shapescripts.

HTH,
Paolo

Another option is to use diagram legends.
They give you a flexible way of coloring your elements based on (almost) any property, and they are strictly diagram specific

I was going to add them, but had to leave for work...  :)

Pity the User Selectable Diagram Properties aren't available for use in Legends - yet!
