v15.2 - BPMN2 Simulation - running multiple scenarios. How?
« on: November 25, 2020, 12:48:30 pm »
We're starting to play with BPMN2 process simulation.  In our Proof of Concept test, we can set up a scenario (by setting the simulation variables in a special "Script" activity as the documentation requires).  So we think we can run a specific simulation.

What we want to do is to set up various scenarios to test that the process handles them all correctly.  We thought we might be able to do this via separate start events each one sequencing to its own "Script" setup activity, thence to the mainline "Process Under Test".  However, there doesn't seem to be a mechanism (that we could easily find) to have the BPMN simulation start at a specific start event (as opposed to another).   Is there such a mechanism?

The next idea we had was to set up the specific scenario in a higher-level process which would then "Call" the "Process Under Test".  We wanted to emulate the "Activity with Sub Process" diagram in the Examples repository.  We haven't been able to get the "call" to work.  What is the "secret sauce we're missing?  Searching the forum suggests having the subprocess in the same package and even nested within the main process may be required, but we tried that and we couldn't get it to work.

Has anybody got running multiple scenarios against a "Process Under Test" to work?

TIA,
Paolo
