Multiple Diagram Profiles?

Hey all

I am just wondering if it is possible to define and use multiple diagram profiles within a single MDG?
If so, has anyone here done it and what benefit does it give?

Whart's your understanding of a diagram profile? To me it defines on what a diagram is (UML-) based. And it gives a handle for defining tool bars. It's just normal to have multiple diagram profiles in a single MDG. So I'm a bit puzzled what your issue could be.

So all the MDGs I've seen (and likewise created) have a single UML profile for diagrams with multiple diagrams in that profile.
Judging by your answer it is indeed possible to define multiple diagram profiles.

I guess this leads me to another (slightly) related question.
Can you have more than one tool box per toolbox profile?

Uhm,yes (and no). A toolbox consists of multiple parts. For each part you define a diagram that has the entries extending the metaclass ToolboxPage. E.g. you have a group with elements and one with connectors (it's up to you how to distribute the single entries). But all belong to the single toolbox that's defined for a diagram. The diagram metaclass referers (via name!!! hit that designer) to the diagram containing the elements (parts) containing the elements per part as attributes. You can't have multiple toolboxes to switch between (at least to my knowledge).

The reason that you would want to have multiple diagram profiles in a technology is to make the New Diagram dialog more manageable. Most technologies only have a handful of custom diagram types, so it isn't as issue. But something like UPDM2 has over 40 custom diagram types which are split between 8 diagram profiles. My advice is look at the New Diagram dialog and decide what you want to see in there. The profiles will be listed in the "Select From" panel.
