v15.2 - Can't "Cut" (and "Paste") multiple items from browser
« on: February 22, 2021, 04:07:10 pm »
We're starting to use the Browser "Cut and Paste" to move items between folders (as opposed to "dragging and dropping" - which for large folders can be quite problematic).  For single items this is fine, but if multiple items are selected in a folder, there is NO "Cut" menu item available.  "Copy to clipboard" is still available, so why no "Cut"?  Trying to "drag and drop" multiple items across large folders is extremely problematic!

Paolo

Hi,
I use the following work-around. I create a folder in the source forder and move all objects into it. I think that you can cut and paste a Folder. In any case, it's easier to see what you move when it is in a separate folder.
Sincerely,
Shimon

I hate to state the obvious, Shimon,
but if I could easily move the multiple items from their current location in the source folder, I could easily move them to the target!  ;) ;)  The problem is that there may be hundreds of items in the source folder, just moving around it is painful.

I did, indeed, look at this process a while ago and came to the conclusion that it was more effort than dragging and dropping.

I think you might have identified the actual problem there  ;D

Yes I admit it's a problem, but these are harvested from external data (in this specific case they are SQL Server Servers and Instances.  Unfortunately, their normative names don't even allow alphabetic separation into alphabetic folders (our normal solution).

However, I don't think that invalidates my frustration - "Copy" is available, so why not "Cut"?

I agree with that. Should be easy enough.
