Showing operational environment associations...
« on: April 10, 2021, 04:11:59 am »
Hi All,
I need to show what is in our production environment and link that to architectural documents. Can Enterprise Architect do this somehow? Does it or can it read a CMDB and link architecture documents created by EA? This is for verification or validation or round tripping the architecture process.

Any thoughts appreciated!

I just would repeat my other answer here. It's possible but there's no free lunch. Get some consultants aboard and start working.

Yep, I read your other response. But this is what I am recommending.

When moving to the cloud talk with say Microsoft. Find from them what tool they recommend for operationally tracking and diagramming the cloud and what their future vision regarding round tripping meaning architecture. Since organizations are using platforms (not custom apps) which abstracts and simplifies tracking architecture or making diagrams. The Architect's world is shrinking down to SaaS and serverless cloud solutions. Also, cloud service brokers even abstracts more away from detailed Architecture.

That is my observation and I have designed microarchitectures in the past. I may be wrong but that is the general trend I see in Architecture and design.

Again many thanks for your replies!

I would think that at this level you should just continue discussing on the other thread or you might loose your focus soon.

Yeah. I was trying to avoid getting accused of asking too much one one thread. :-)

Thanks!
